Wrapping Up Summer and Looking Ahead

Industry Update Advocacy Members

A Message from your 2025 HBAM President

Time flies when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe summer is already in the rearview mirror, kids are back in school, and we’re heading into a busy stretch when everyone is pushing to wrap up projects before the weather turns.

Summer Convention Highlights

Speaking of summer, what a fantastic convention! We had over 230 attendees at this year’s event. Thank you for showing up to learn, connect, and make memories. It was especially great to see so many families, Young Professionals, and the highest number of kids (future HBA members!) in years. Huge kudos to our HBAM staff and the Convention Committee for pulling off a great event.

A special shoutout to our Convention Chair, Mike Tucker—aka Macho Man. Boyne Mountain has been a place of lifelong memories for me, and this year’s convention was no exception.

Legal & Regulatory Updates

We continue to stay actively engaged in legal matters impacting our industry:

  • City of Troy – Awaiting a response from the Supreme Court on whether they will hear our appeal.
  • Building Codes – No changes currently. We remain on the 2015 MRC and the move to 2021 is still indefinitely on hold. Good news—for now. Stay tuned.
  • City of Owosso – Issues with excessive tap fees are ongoing.
  • Sprinkler Mandates – This is still an active area of concern.

As legal challenges continue to grow, we’re preparing for what lies ahead. I’ve assembled a task force, led by Rich Kligman, along with EO's and Bob, to develop a plan to raise $300,000 over the next two years to strengthen our Legal Action Fund. Their recommendations will be presented at the November Board Meeting. Our long-term goal is $1,000,000. We can’t afford to rest until we get there.

To our members—you make this organization strong. Thank you for your continued support and commitment. As always, your HBAM team and Senior Officers are here to serve you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything we can do.
